The Direct Selling Association (DSA)
Since 1965, the DSA has been the recognised trade association for the direct selling channel of distribution. Today its member companies account for 59% of total direct sales. Direct selling is the UK's largest provider of part time, independent earning opportunities. It is an alternative channel of retail distribution which accounts for sales in excess of £2 billion every year and offers the public a wide range of consumer goods and services. Direct selling businesses range from small companies to large multi-national operations, such as Forever. From gas and electricity supplies to clothes, toys and games, to skincare and cosmetics; these are just some of the categories of goods that are supplied through direct selling companies.

The DSA Consumer Code of Practice
The Direct Selling Association Consumer Code of Practice ensures that direct sales customers have equal rights and protection as those offered by traditional forms of retailing. It gives consumers confidence that they will be treated reliably and fairly when they shop with DSA members. If problems do arise, they will be dealt with swiftly and in line with the DSA code procedures.
DSA Code of Business Conduct
All independent direct sellers of member companies are protected by The DSA Code of Business Conduct which covers the fair and honest promotion of independent business opportunities in direct selling. The code provides protection of investments in business opportunities, that exceed those demanded by law. The code is administered by the DSA's Independent Code Administrator. Key features of the DSA Code of Business Conduct:
- Demands truthfulness and openness in all recruitment advertisements
- Prohibits unreasonable investments
- Demands proper contracts, contract cancellation rights and product buy-back rights that exceed those demanded by law
- Demands the provision of adequate basic training as part of any initial investment
- Demands the prompt payment of commissions and bonuses and provision of regular and comprehensive statements of account
